What to write on an iftar invitation
An iftar invitation says who is hosting, which evening, when to arrive before sunset, where, and how to reply. Because the meal starts the moment the fast ends, the time line matters more here than on any other dinner invitation, so give it a line of its own.
| Line | What it says | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Greeting | Sets the tone | Ramadan Mubarak! |
| 2. The invitation | Who is hosting, and that it is an iftar | The Haddad family invites you to break the fast with us |
| 3. The date | Weekday and date | Saturday, February 20, 2027 |
| 4. The time | When to arrive, and when the fast is broken | Please arrive by 5:15 pm · Iftar at sunset (about 5:39 pm) |
| 5. The place | Address, parking, which door | 18 Cedar Lane, Edison. Parking on Birch Street. |
| 6. The plan | What happens after sunset | Dates and water, maghrib prayer, dinner, then tea |
| 7. Practical notes | Prayer space, children, food | Prayer space available · Kids welcome · No need to bring anything |
| 8. Reply | How and by when to RSVP | Please reply by February 15 |
Write the date as a weekday and a calendar date. If you also want the Ramadan night on the card, such as “the 13th of Ramadan”, add it once the start of the month has been announced: Ramadan can begin a day earlier or later than printed calendars expect, and the Ramadan date of a given Saturday moves with it.
Keep the warm words at the top and the facts underneath. Guests read an iftar invitation twice: once when it arrives, and once on the day, in the car, checking what time to leave.
Family iftar invitation wording
A family iftar invitation can be short and warm. Relatives already know the way to your house; what they need is the evening, the time to arrive and whether the children, the grandparents and the new in-laws are all included.

For a large family, send one invitation per household rather than one per person, and ask each household to say in the reply how many are coming and whether anyone needs a high chair or a quiet room to pray.
Iftar party invitation wording for friends
An iftar party with friends is looser than the family meal: a potluck, a long table at a restaurant, a rooftop, games after dinner. Keep it light, but still give the sunset time, because friends who are fasting plan their whole afternoon around it.

A potluck works best when you name what you are making and ask guests to say their dish in the reply. Dates, water and a soup on the table at sunset are enough to break the fast; the rest can arrive warm in foil.
Company and office iftar invitation wording
A company iftar invitation is formal in tone and exact in its details. Colleagues who are fasting need the venue and the sunset time; colleagues who are not need to know what iftar is and that they are just as welcome. Hotels and restaurants book up during Ramadan, so ask for replies early.

Two small kindnesses make a work iftar easier. Start it at sunset rather than at a fixed office hour, and if your team usually has lunch events, move the Ramadan one to iftar so fasting colleagues can join rather than watch.
Mosque, community and student iftar invitations
Mosques, Islamic centers, Muslim student associations and charities host iftars for everyone, and many hold an open or interfaith iftar each Ramadan. These invitations go to a crowd, so they need a clear time, a clear place and a clear way to say how many people are coming.

Ask for replies even for a free, open event. The kitchen needs a number, and “please reply so we can plan the food” is a reason people understand. Reponelle is free for up to 1,000 guests per event, so a mosque can send every family its own link.
Inviting non-Muslim friends and colleagues to iftar
Many hosts invite friends, neighbors and colleagues who are not Muslim. Most are delighted to come and a little unsure what to expect, so add one or two plain lines to the invitation and let the evening explain the rest. Nobody needs a lesson, only enough to feel at ease.

Saturday, February 27, 2027, at sunset (about 5:45 pm)
Number 14, the house with the lanterns in the window
And these are the notes worth adding, to the invitation or to the message you send with it:
Iftar is the evening meal that breaks the day’s fast during Ramadan. We start with dates and water at sunset.
Please come a little early: the fast ends at sunset, about 5:39 pm, and we will start eating then.
After the dates, we pray maghrib for a few minutes. You’re welcome to sit and chat, or simply wait for dinner.
You don’t need to fast or to know any customs. Come as you are.
Nothing at all. If you’d like to, dates, fruit, a dessert or flowers are lovely. We don’t serve alcohol.
The iftar is at the mosque. Comfortable, modest clothes are best, shoes come off in the prayer hall, and there are scarves at the door for women who would like one.
If you want to greet us, “Ramadan Mubarak” is perfect.
Keep these notes relaxed and short: the point is that guests feel welcome, not that they pass a test. A first-time guest who sees everyone reach for a date at the same moment usually understands the evening better than any explanation. If you invite colleagues as well as family, and they read different languages, make two versions of the invitation, for example one in English and one in Arabic, and send each person the one they read best.
Suhoor invitation wording
Suhoor is the meal eaten before dawn, before the fast begins. A suhoor invitation is usually for a late-night gathering after taraweeh prayers, at home or at a café that stays open late in Ramadan. Give the start time and the time the food is served, because guests who are fasting the next day need to eat before fajr.

Most suhoor gatherings end long before fajr, so you do not need to print the dawn time. If you are hosting one in the small hours, say “we’ll finish before fajr” and let guests check the time on their mosque’s Ramadan timetable.
Eid al-Fitr invitations: Eid party, lunch and dinner wording
Eid al-Fitr begins when the new moon of Shawwal is sighted, so the exact day is usually confirmed only the evening before. In 2027 it is expected around March 9 or 10, depending on the sighting and on whether Ramadan lasts 29 or 30 days. Word the invitation around the day of Eid rather than a date (“the first day of Eid”, “the second day of Eid”), or choose the first weekend after Eid, whose date is fixed.

In many South Asian families the celebrations start on Chaand Raat, the night the Eid moon is seen, with henna and bangles. Its invitation has to be flexible too: “Henna night on Chaand Raat, the evening the moon is sighted. We’ll message you as soon as it’s announced.”
A note on Eid al-Adha invitations
Eid al-Adha comes about seventy days after Eid al-Fitr; in 2027 it is expected around the middle of May, again depending on the moon. Families often gather for lunch after the Eid prayer, and many share the meat of the Eid sacrifice with relatives, neighbors and people in need. The same wording works with the name of the Eid changed.

The practical details: sunset, prayer, food and children
Ramadan invitations need a few details that other dinner invitations never mention. Say them once, clearly, and guests will not have to ask.
Sunset, maghrib and the clock time
- Give a clock time, not only “at sunset”. Iftar is at maghrib, the sunset prayer, and its time changes every day: in New York it moves from about 5:22 pm at the start of Ramadan 2027 to about 5:56 pm at the end.
- Ask guests to arrive 15 to 20 minutes before maghrib. Traffic just before iftar is real, and fasting guests will eat at sunset whether or not everyone has arrived.
- Take the time from your mosque’s Ramadan timetable rather than a weather app. Timetables may differ from the app’s sunset by a minute or two.
- Clocks in the United States change on March 14, 2027, after Eid, so this year no iftar time jumps by an hour in the middle of the month.
Prayer space, food, children and dress
- Prayer space: if you have room, write “Prayer space available” and set out a few prayer mats and towels near a sink for wudu. Guests who don’t need them won’t mind.
- Bringing a dish: say it plainly, either “No need to bring anything” or “Bring a dessert to share”. A box of dates is the classic gift for an iftar host.
- Children: say whether they are invited. In February the evening ends early enough for most families, and a room with toys keeps dinner calm.
- Separate rooms: if your family seats men and women in different rooms, say so on the invitation, so no one is surprised at the door.
- Dress: nothing special at home. For an iftar at a mosque, mention modest clothes and shoes off in the prayer hall.
- Dietary needs: in a Muslim home the food is halal; still ask about allergies, vegetarians and anyone who cannot eat dairy or gluten.
On an online invitation, the plan of the evening can sit in the programme, in five short moments: arrival, iftar at sunset, maghrib prayer, dinner, tea and dessert.
When to send iftar and Eid invitations for Ramadan 2027
Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around Monday, February 8, and Eid al-Fitr around March 9 or 10, but both depend on the moon sighting, and many communities announce them only the evening before. Plan around the expected dates, and confirm the start of the month before you print anything with a Ramadan date on it.
| When | For | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 3 to 4 weeks before | Company, client and mosque iftars | Venues and caterers are booked early, and Ramadan weekends fill first. Send them in mid-January. |
| 1 to 2 weeks before | Family and friends’ iftars | Once Ramadan begins, evenings fill quickly with invitations from everyone else. |
| 3 to 5 days before | The RSVP deadline | Enough time to shop and cook, or to confirm the number with the restaurant. |
| In the last week of Ramadan | Eid invitations | Write “the first day of Eid”, and confirm the day after the moon sighting. |
Many people spend more of the last ten nights at the mosque, so large social iftars are usually planned for the first two-thirds of the month. A small family iftar in the last week is different: it often feels like the start of Eid.
RSVP wording for iftar and Eid invitations
The reply line tells you how many plates to set, so make it easy: how to reply, and by when.
Please reply by February 15.
Let us know by February 15 so we can save you a seat at the table.
Kindly reply by February 15 using your personal link.
Please reply once for your household and tell us in the note how many of you are coming.
When you reply, tell us which dish you’re bringing.
You’re welcome to bring one guest. Just tell us when you reply.
Any allergies or dietary needs? Tell us when you reply.
Please reply by the last weekend of Ramadan so we can plan the Eid lunch.
Avoid “regrets only” for an iftar. A host cooking for the moment the fast ends needs to hear from everyone, and a quiet guest who turns up unannounced at sunset is hard to feed.
Ramadan and Eid greetings: what to say and when
The greeting at the top of an invitation sets its tone. These are the ones most used, what they mean, when they are said and how people usually answer.
| Greeting | Meaning | When | Usual reply |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ramadan Mubarak (رمضان مبارك) | Blessed Ramadan | From the night the month is announced, and throughout it | Ramadan Mubarak to you too |
| Ramadan Kareem (رمضان كريم) | Generous Ramadan | The same | Allahu akram (“God is more generous”) |
| Kul ‘am wa antum bikhair (كل عام وأنتم بخير) | May you be well every year | At the start of Ramadan and at Eid | Wa antum bikhair (“and you too”) |
| Eid Mubarak (عيد مبارك) | Blessed Eid | From the evening Eid is announced, through the days of Eid | Eid Mubarak, or Khair Mubarak in many South Asian families |
| Taqabbal Allahu minna wa minkum (تقبل الله منا ومنكم) | May God accept it from us and from you | At Eid, after the fasting and prayers of Ramadan | Minna wa minkum (“from us and from you”) |
- Ramadan Mubarak and Ramadan Kareem are both widely used and understood everywhere. Some people prefer one, some the other; either is a kind start to an invitation.
- Use the Ramadan greetings during the month and switch to Eid Mubarak once Eid is announced. An Eid invitation sent during Ramadan can say “Eid Mubarak in advance”.
- For Eid al-Adha, “Eid Mubarak” works too, or “Eid al-Adha Mubarak”.
- Non-Muslim friends sometimes ask whether “Happy Ramadan” is all right. It is understood and kindly meant; “Ramadan Mubarak” is the greeting Muslims use among themselves.
- On an English invitation, write the greeting in Latin letters. If you love the Arabic script, set it as the title in large letters and keep the details in English underneath.
Sending an iftar or Eid invitation online
An online invitation suits Ramadan because the details change: the time of sunset moves, and the day of Eid is confirmed late. On Reponelle you choose a Ramadan or Eid design, write your wording, and create a personal link for each guest or household. You share the links yourself by WhatsApp, text, email or any social app, or tap the Share on WhatsApp button next to a link. Guests open the invitation in their browser, with no app and no account, and reply going, maybe or declining, with a dietary choice such as halal or vegetarian and a note.
Every reply arrives in one list in your account. If Eid moves by a day, change the date once and every link shows the new day; then send a quick message yourself so guests look again. It is free for up to 1,000 guests per event, with no ads. Each invitation is written in one of 12 languages; for a family that reads Arabic and colleagues who read English, make one version in each and send each guest the one they read best.
Iftar and Eid invitation questions
What should an iftar invitation say?
Who is hosting, the evening, the time to arrive and the time of sunset, the address, whether there is a prayer space, whether to bring anything and the date you need replies by. A greeting such as “Ramadan Mubarak” at the top sets the tone.
What time should I put on an iftar invitation?
Give the arrival time and the time of maghrib, for example “Please arrive by 5:15 pm · iftar at sunset (about 5:39 pm)”. Take the time from your mosque’s Ramadan timetable, and ask guests to come 15 to 20 minutes early.
How do I word an iftar party invitation for friends?
Keep it light and keep the time exact: “Fasting is better with friends. Iftar party at Aisha & Bilal’s, Saturday, February 20, 2027. Come by 5:15, we eat at sunset.” Add what to bring if it is a potluck.
How do I write a company iftar invitation?
Use a formal opening, the company’s name, the date, the time guests are welcome and the time of sunset, the venue and a reply date about two weeks ahead. Say that everyone is welcome, fasting or not.
How do I invite non-Muslim friends to iftar?
Add a line that explains it: “Iftar is the meal that breaks the day’s fast at sunset.” Tell them they don’t need to fast or bring anything, to arrive a little early, and that there will be a short prayer before dinner.
What is a suhoor invitation?
An invitation to the meal eaten before dawn in Ramadan, usually a late-night gathering after taraweeh. Give the start time and when the food is served, so fasting guests eat before fajr.
How do I write an Eid invitation when the date depends on the moon?
Name the day of Eid instead of a date, such as “the first day of Eid”, add the expected date in brackets, and confirm the day once the moon is sighted. Or invite guests for the first weekend after Eid, whose date is fixed.
When is Ramadan 2027?
Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around February 8, 2027, and Eid al-Fitr around March 9 or 10, 2027. Both depend on the sighting of the new moon, so confirm with your local mosque before you send invitations with a Ramadan date on them.
Should I say Ramadan Mubarak or Ramadan Kareem?
Either. Both are common greetings for the month, and some people prefer one or the other. Ramadan Kareem is often answered with “Allahu akram”, and Ramadan Mubarak with the same greeting back.
When should I send iftar invitations?
One to two weeks ahead for a family or friends’ iftar, and three to four weeks ahead for a company or mosque iftar, ideally before Ramadan begins. Ask for replies three to five days before the evening.
Can guests bring a dish to an iftar?
Only if you say so. Write “No need to bring anything” or “Bring a dessert to share” on the invitation, and for a potluck ask guests to name their dish in the reply.
Are Reponelle’s iftar and Eid invitations free?
Yes. The Ramadan and Eid designs, personal guest links and the RSVP list are free for up to 1,000 guests per event, with no ads, and guests reply without an app or an account.
